I arrived at the customer's home to find a water heater with moisture in the base and dripping to the floor. I investigated and discovered a leak on the cold-side supply line, causing water to drip down the tank. The unsupported thermal expansion tank had also failed. The water pressure for the home was only 50 PSI, so the cause of the expansion tank failure and gasket failure on the supply line remains unknown. I discussed concerns and presented options for expansion tank and supply line replacement. The customer chose the bronze option, and I turned off the water and drained the system. I removed the old expansion tank and supply line and re-piped the top of the tank with a new expansion tank mounted to the wall and a new supply line. Performance and safety testing completed. No further work to perform. The customer is interested in potentially increasing their water pressure and replacing the shower in the future.
